Celebrity Golf Tournaments

Bret Jones, P.A. sponsored a number of golf tournaments throughout the months of May and June including the Clermont-Minneola Lions Club golf tournament held at the Legends Golf & Country Club, the South Lake Chamber of Commerce’s tournament held at the Sanctuary Ridge Golf Club, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lake & Sumter Counties held at Harbor Hills Country Club, and the Kiwanis Club’s annual Celebrity Golf Tournament held at Bella Collina.

Bret Jones hosted a political fundraiser benefiting Congressman Tom Graves’ re-election campaign at the Citrus Club in Downtown Orlando. Congressman Graves is a Republican Representative from Georgia who is currently fundraising for his 2012 re-election campaign.

Bret Jones, P.A. sponsored two very deserving causes in the month of February. Our office sponsored the 2011 American Cancer Society’s Cattle Baron’s Ball which was held at Bella Collina. The event raised funds for the American Cancer Society’s continued research towards a cure for cancer. In addition, Bret Jones, P.A. sponsored the Special Olympics Rocks event where all proceeds benefited Special Olympics Florida, a program that works with athletes of varying disabilities.

Federal Congress Extends Tax Cuts

Federal Congress passed legislation extending tax cuts to many Americans. These tax laws will affect many in their decisions surrounding estate planning, capital gains, and corporate decisions. These changes in the Federal tax law, as well as changes in Florida this year (modifications to the spousal exemption and homestead application for married couples doing their estate plan as well as changes to the liabilities between single-member LLCs and their owners) necessitate all individuals who are either in business or planning for their future to contact a tax attorney. At Bret Jones, P.A., we have a tax attorney on staff to assist with all of these issues.

Bret Jones, P.A. co-sponsored the 2011 Economic Update with First Green Bank and hosted Professor Sean Snaith, Director of UCF’s Institute for Economic Competitiveness as speaker for approximately 150 guests. The evening was designed to provide Central Florida leaders with an opportunity to discuss the state of the economy with Professor Snaith and to gather information that will help them plan for the coming years.

Leadership Lake County

Alison Strange graduated from the Leadership Lake County program last evening after being elected President of the Leadership Lake County Class of 2010. The Leadership Lake County program is a minimum 2-year commitment made by leaders in Lake County. The first year of the program is spent getting to better know Lake County and the subsequent year(s) involve execution of a “Class Project” designed to improve or serve Lake County. The Class of 2010 has chosen “economic development” as their class project and intent to host a high school and collegiate crew regatta in Lake County during the Spring of 2012. Bret Jones is a graduate of the Class of 2006.

The red carpet was rolled out in true Hollywood style on April 5th as the new Possibility Pictures film “Letters to God” celebrated an unprecedented world premiere event at The Villages, Florida/Old Mill Playhouse. Bret Jones, P.A. had the honor of sponsoring this event and attended as guests.
Special guests on the red carpet from the Possibility Pictures film included Maree Cheatham (Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Days of Our Lives), Tom Nowicki (The Blind Side, Remember The Titans), Christopher John Schmidt, Andrea Conte along with Executive Producer: Tom Swanson, Producer: Cameron Kim Dawson and Director: David Nixon.

Bret Jones, P.A. sponsored The American Cancer Society's Cattle Barons' Ball. This event brought together donors from all walks of life to kick up their heels in support of the American Cancer Society.
This exciting and worthwhile event raised $215,000 to fund cancer related programs nationally and in our community.
The focus for 2010 is cancer research and children's cancer programs.

BJPA to collect donations for The R.E.L.I.E.F. Foundation for Haiti

Bret Jones, P.A. took donations of all kinds to be sent with a group traveling to Haiti to help civilians after the 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck the country on January 12, 2010.
The donation proved to be successful as several over 20 full boxes of items including clothing, supplies, and food were collected.
2010 National Negotiation Competition

Attorneys Bret Jones, Alison Strange, Reda Stewart, and Eric Faulkner took part in judging the finals of the 2010 National Negotiation Competition for the American Bar Association, Law Student Division.
The ABA Law Student Division Negotiation Competition promotes greater interest among law students in legal negotiation and provides a means for them to practice and improve their negotiating skills. The competition simulates legal negotiations in which law students, acting as lawyers, negotiate a series of legal problems.
The Final competition took place in Orlando, Florida, where the Boston University School of Law team was named the National Champion.
BJPA to Sponsor Dot Richardson's National Collegiate Softball Invitational

On Friday, February 12, 2010, Bret Jones, P.A. sponsored the first annual Dot Richardson National Collegiate Softball Invitational in which eight Top NCAA Division 1 Softball teams competed in their first games of the 2010 season. Teams included Top 10 Ranked Michigan, Georgia, UCLA, Tennessee, and Oklahoma.
In addition to sponsoring the event, the firm hosted its first annual VIP event, inviting some of the areas most prestegious professional athletes. Strongman Brad Dunn, Professional Softball players Kristen Butler, Jennie Ritter, and Jennie Finch, among others, attended the event, creating connections in several different sports.
